This snow sport has a quick learning curve and is one of the best ways to get outdoors during the winter! Essentially winter hiking, snowshoeing is accessible and easy to pick your own path - whether you choose a stroll on flat groomed trails or a trek in powder up a local mountain.

Mt. Peg Trails

A simple snowshoe stroll on the flat fields of the golf course, or a quick hike to the summit where you can see for miles, are both options on the Mt. Peg trails. Snowshoe rentals and day passes are available at the Woodstock Nordic Center

Mt. Tom Trails

Miles of trails ranging in difficulty that wind through Vermont's only National Park and on Mt. Tom are perfect to enjoy a winter hike on snowshoes. Trek through historic forests, around The Pogue - a human-made pond, and up to the scenic overlooks! Snowshoe rentals and day passes are available at the Woodstock Nordic Center

Passionista Tip: Pack a snack or picnic and stop by the Mt. Tom Cabin for a perfect place to enjoy a bite.

Appalachian Trail (AT)

The famous Appalachian Trail runs right by Woodstock, Vermont, and is a great trail system, so bring your own snowshoe equipment to enjoy it during the winter! There are a few sections that you can hike trail head to trail head, or park and do a hike out & back. 

Passionista Tip: Plan your route and keep track of your path. Cell service is not reliable, best practice is to have a backup wayfinding plan.
