Our Orvis-Endorsed Fly Fishing Program allows guests from beginner to expert to cast in some of Central Vermont's most picturesque rivers and streams. Learn to flycast on the lawn with one of our Orvis Endorsed Guides, or head out to one of the local streams or rivers. Wade or float the day away while casting from one of our river rafts.

Instruction
Before we head out on excursions or begin a lesson we go over some of the basics of fly-fishing. We ensure everyone feels confident by including instruction of:
- Explanation of freshwater fly-fishing gear
- Fly casting techniques
- Essential fly-fishing knots
- Basic stream and pond entomology (science of insects)
- Proper fly selection
- How to read water and currents
- How to play, land and safely release fish

Lessons, Trips & Programs
From beginners to seasoned anglers, we offer lessons and excursions for everyone! Join our guides to create memorable experiences in beautiful and clear streams and brooks, local ponds, and lakes, or create your own personalized adventure!
We fish from late March/early April through the end of October, as conditions allow. Select late-season (after October 31) trips are offered for experienced anglers only at the discretion of our professional guide team. Inquire about winter trips (as conditions allow) by emailing fish@woodstockinn.com.
Full-day trips include lunch and transportation by the Woodstock Inn & Resort is available upon request, based on availability.

Introduction to Fly-Fishing - Lawn Casting

Recommended for the true beginner or someone who needs re-orientation to the sport. Learn to fly cast on our Activity Center Lawn, this is an on-land-only lesson experience. All equipment explained, plus casting instruction, fishing knots, and basic entomology (bugs) lessons included. Orvis equipment provided. No license required. Pair with a Half-Day Excursion to learn the fundamentals, then put them to work on the water!

Explore the picturesque waters of Central Vermont with our experienced Orvis Endorsed Fly-Fishing Guides. Head to local rivers and streams and wade for the day, stay afloat on our river raft, or enjoy a flatwater fishing experience on beautiful nearby stocked ponds in our Clacka-Craft drift boat.
All our Full-Day Excursions include a boxed lunch provided by the Woodstock Inn & Resort. Transportation is available upon request and based on availability. Minimum age is 12 years. Ages 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Bring your own equipment or use our Orvis gear.
Vermont fishing license is required for fishing everywhere and can be purchased by clicking here.
*Our guides prefer to have a maximum of 3 people per guide to give the best attention for safety, however, this can be modified on a case-by-case basis.

Learn all aspects of fly fishing while in the water - perfect for your first time! Our Orvis Endorsed guides will teach you everything you need to know to fish on your own. Learn casting, knots, flies, and strategies. Guides will teach how to float a dry fly, drift streamers, nymphing, dry-dropper, and streamer-nymph strategies. Learn how to expertly set the hook, play and land the fish and safely release a fish back to the wild. This excursion includes an Orvis Fly-Fishing Book to take with you to continue your fly-fishing education.

Fish the grounds of the historic Billing’s Farm & Museum!
Just a stone’s throw away, the Ottauqueechee River offers fantastic trout fishing. Start at the waterfall on Barnard Brook and fish down to the confluence with the Ottaquechee, then make your way up along the banks of the farm. This is a great trip to combine small-stream techniques and strategies and fishing a larger river. The option to fish with a lighter rod and reel combos (2-4 weight) in the brook can be requested. Admission to Billings Farm & Museum is included when you book this excursion!

Explore the nearby brooks searching for Vermont’s official cold-water fish, the Eastern Brook Trout along with other wild trout species. Navigate small streams by hiking and casting around boulders with small rods and light tackle (2-3 weights) in our Half-Day, Small Stream Excursion. On our Full-Day Small Stream Excursion, you can choose to explore the Green Mountain National Forest utilizing our rare US Forestry Permit. This is an adventure of a lifetime that includes hiking, climbing banks, and casting in small, forested areas.
River Raft Fishing

Float New England’s longest free-flowing river, the White River, take on the Upper Connecticut River for World Class trout fishing, or stay closer to Woodstock to try your luck catching bass and pike. Our experienced Orvis Endorsed guides will row you downriver in an Outcast Drifter 13 or FlyCraft raft while you cast from the front and back. Stop halfway through the excursion for a stream-side boxed lunch prepared by our chefs.
Plan on a thirty-minute drive to the river and a total of 5+ hours on the water. This excursion includes all Orvis Equipment and transportation to and from the Woodstock Inn & Resort.

Policies & Contact
Trips & lessons must be booked a minimum of 24 hours in advance. Last-minute trips may be requested, but not guaranteed.
Cancellation Policy: We adhere to a 48-hour cancellation policy. Cancellations made 48-hours prior to the reservation date will not be charged, cancellations within 48-hours of the reservation date will be charged in full. Excursions that are booked within 48-hours, and without a reservation, will be charged in full and are non-refundable.
Weather Cancellation: In the event of a cancellation by our guides due to weather, we offer other fishing options and/or the ability to change the date of the trip. If an alternative excursion cannot be fulfilled, a full refund will be given.

Equipment
Our all-inclusive trips really are just that. All you have to do is come with the clothing you need for fishing. Your guide will have a full stock of Orvis fly rods and reels, vests, waders, flies, lines, leaders, and tippets you will need. With all of that said, please feel free to bring your favorite rod and equipment. The guides are more than happy to accommodate.
For our lessons and excursions, we recommend you bring clothing for fishing & local weather (we recommend layers, a raincoat & lightweight gloves), a hat, polarized sunglasses (for protection during casting class and guided trips), insect repellent, and sunscreen.
